BAS Agent
The bookkeeping industry was regulated by the ATO as of March 1st, 2010. At present, all bookkeepers providing a BAS Service are required to register as a BAS Agent.
The requirements of a BAS Agent are:
- Minimum of Certificate iv in Financial Services – Accounting or Bookkeeping
- More than 1000 hours of relevant experience
- Ongoing Professional Development
- Professional Indemnity insurance
- Code of Conduct
What does that mean for you?
In earlier days, a bookkeeper was capable of completing a MYOB or Quicken course and afterwards charging for their services. Regrettably, owing to their lack of experience, they used to mess up at times. The client couldn’t do anything about it except finding someone else who, hopefully, would be capable of cleaning up the mess. It is an expensive exercise financially as well as emotionally.
BAS Agents have a professional Code of Conduct in relation to:
- Honesty and Integrity
- Proficiency
- Confidentiality
- Independence (acting lawfully)
Breaching the Code of Conduct may result in termination of the registration and Civil Penalties attracting fines up to $137,500. In the end there is something that can be done in case you are left in a mess.
I am a Registered BAS Agent who can give you confidence through efficient work.
At CSB, great bookkeeping is not just about data entry but, getting it right, within all the facets of bookkeeping. It’s about giving you control of your finances!
